Abstract
This study was designed to supplement and improve the current continuing education system according with the new continuing education standard that will be enforced in 2018. Based on the literature review and consultation from experts in the social work field and academia, we conducted delphi surveys to collect experts" opinions on continuing education implemented by the Korean Association of Mental Health Social Workers. The participants for focus group included 5 experts in the mental health social work field and academia, and 36 field experts for Delphi surveys. The results indicate that first, the subjects of the educations should be expanded to broadly include changes in the mental health policies and systems, the specific theories and techniques applicable directly to the field, the identity issues and prevention of burnout, and the subjects that can improve approaches to and perception of the clients. Second, the small group education should be expanded, and the participations should be included in the selection of the curriculum and the management of the system. Lastly, the education contents should be divided more based on the career rather than the licensure grade. Based on the results, we suggest the contents and process of continuing education for mental health social workers.
